I learned from Rick Steve, and trail and error, that you can pack light, even for a long trip. This is a major experiment…A backpack and two tennis rackets. Note: I hope that I get to play enough to warrant two rackets!
The major keys to packing light on a long trip:
- Make a list, quite a ways out and think about it as you get ready and dress each day.
- Plan to do laundry.
- Wear layers. No big bulky coat.
- If you need something, buy it there.
- Compression bags.
- Minimize.
- Wear things over and over, and be ok with it.
- Roll your stuff and place them in the compression bags.
- Wear stuff of the bigger stuff. For example, I wore and brought one pair of long pants. That said, they’re super thin nylon hiking-type pants from the Columbia brand.
- My laptop is super thin, which helps. (I’m working every day)
- Two pairs of shoes – Tennis and Running. Both are multi purpose.
- Live without some of your daily options. I brought a regular toothbrush vs my Sonicare.
- Practice pack a few weeks out. This really helps!
